Chemaphor develops small-molecule compound discoveries for commercialization in major markets in several distinct biotechnology sectors, thus providing diversified risk and revenue benefits. Proprietary products have been developed from carotenoid oxidation products that provide a broad base of bioactive compounds, including addressing the pressing need for new, safe, cancer drug therapies.
The Company’s technology is based on the idea that carotenoid compounds, such as beta-carotene and lycopene, are actually nutritional sources of a diverse family of non-vitamin A carotenoid oxidation products that possess hitherto unrecognized biological activities. Many such carotenoid oxidation products are found pre-formed in plants and many of them inevitably become part of the human diet, as well as the natural diet of many animals.
Chemaphor’s immediate focus is on two proprietary products, a non pharmaceutical product OxBC and a lead cancer drug compound OCL-1.
A secondary business activity, custom synthesis of specialty chemicals, is a new business activity. The company’s in-house expertise in chemical synthesis, required for cancer drug development activities, is being leveraged to provide an ancillary, custom research chemical synthesis service to serve high value niche markets. This activity is already generating modest revenue that is expected to grow significantly as the business gets established and Chemaphor becomes recognized for its work.
